The Awareness and Outreach committee is committed to raising awareness of domestic violence and providing resources to the community.
Some of the committee's projects include: creating a billboard and bus shelter campaign to raise awareness of resources available in PBC for survivors of Domestic Violence, developing social media infographics, and planning the annual DV Opening Ceremony in October.
It is estimated that there are 3.3 to 10 million children who witness the abuse of a parent or adult care giver each year. A majority of the studies done on the co-occurrence of domestic violence and child maltreatment reveal that there are adult and child victims in 30 to 60 percent of families experiencing domestic violence. This co-occurrence has compelled child welfare and domestic violence programs across the nation to re-evaluate their services and interventions with families experiencing both forms of abuse.
The Domestic Violence Child Welfare Committee (DVCW) represents a collaborative effort between the Department of Children and Families (DCF), local certified domestic violence centers, community-based care agencies, and other child welfare professionals that provide an optimal coordinated community response to families experiencing the co-occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse. The functions of the DVCW Committee are to address systemic barriers that compromise the safety of survivors and their children, bredige the gaps between agencies that exist due to differing mandates, and enhance policies and service approaches.
The ultimate goal of this committee is to bridge the gap between child welfare and domestic violence service providers to enhance family safety, create permanency for children, reduce removals of children from non-offending parents, and hold perpertrators of domestic vioence accountable.
The Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team is a confidential committee comprised of local domestic violence professionals. This team examines domestic violence-related homicides that occur in Palm Beach County to identify potential gaps in services or policies that may have contributed to the fatalities. The team's approach is non-judgmental, focusing on prevention and improvement. The objective is to enhance the support system available to victims of domestic violence.
Due to FL Statute 741.316 and the confidentiality of DV cases reviewed, members of this team are invited to join in accordance with the Palm Beach County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team Protocols.
The Institutional Analysis Committee is a collaborative group comprised of local law enforcement, criminal justice professionals, and advocates. This committee conducts in-depth reviews of specific practices within the Palm Beach County criminal justice system to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. By examining the system's current functioning, the committee aims to determine the need for additional resources, information, awareness, or training. The committee's approach is non-judgmental, focusing on objective analysis and data to enhance the collective impact of agencies across Palm Beach County.
The Offender Accountability Committee engages in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing the justice process and promoting responsibility among domestic violence offenders.
The prevention committee is focused on bringing prevention messaging to PBC through various platforms. The committee has done this through social media platforms and sharing among the larger CCR team. The committee plans to continue previous efforts and create community-wide events to engage more community members in prevention, with the goal of incorporating young people’s voices and ideas for effective change in PBC.
The Training Committee guides our CCR on current training trends and needs for our local service providers and community members, suggests specific training and trainers featuring new and innovative practices that may assist our community in enhancing system practices, creates training materials to be utilized throughout our community, and provides local training to service providers and community members.
